Background

Water authority AGV is investigating, in the Sloterplas lake in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, what the use of heat from surface water does to zooplankton and phytoplankton.

The research is commissioned by several waterboards and covers three measurement years. The results will be used for a guideline on permitting cold water discharges.

  • The third and final measurement season started on 29 May 2026.
  • Interim results for 2024 and 2025 have been published.
  • The test installation consists of two sea containers at the Sloterplas.
