Knowledge Programme Sea Level Rise

Knowledge Programme Sea Level Rise

Background

The Knowledge Programme Sea Level Rise is a collaboration of governments, knowledge institutes, companies and civil society organisations within the Delta Programme. It investigates the consequences of sea level rise for flood safety, freshwater availability, land use, agriculture and nature, among other things.

The aim is to reduce uncertainty in the projections and to determine up to which level of sea level rise the current strategies are sufficient.

Facts from the source

  • The programme runs until the end of 2026.
  • For 2100, a sea level rise of up to 1.2 m is taken into account (KNMI climate dashboard).
  • Flood defences and sand nourishment are investigated for 3 m and probably 5 m of sea level rise.
